Office of the Regional Executive Director of Education

Elwin LeRoux is the Regional Executive Director of Education for the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. He was named the top executive of the system in October, 2013.

Mr. LeRoux has been employed by the HRCE for close to 30 years, serving in various positions including teacher, vice-principal, principal, supervisor and coordinator of school administration. Immediately prior to his appointment as regional director of education, Mr. LeRoux provided leadership to the HRCE as the senior staff advisor.

A native of Glace Bay, Mr. LeRoux completed an undergraduate degree in Science at St. Francis Xavier University and a Bachelor of Education at Saint Mary's University. He subsequently received two master's degrees in education from Saint Mary's. Mr. LeRoux has also co-instructed various university courses in the education programs at both St. FX and Mount Saint Vincent University.

Mr. LeRoux is fluent in both English and French. He and his wife Monique have four children and live in Fall River. Beyond work and family life, Mr. LeRoux enjoys travelling, exploring other cultures, and spending time strumming his guitar with friends (and other bad singers).

*On April 1, 2018, the Halifax Regional School Board was officially renamed the Halifax Regional Centre for Education and Mr. Leroux's title was changed from Superintendent to Regional Executive Director of Education.
