Office of the Regional Executive Director of Education

Steve Gallagher is the Regional Executive Director (RED) of Education (Acting) for the Halifax Regional Centre for Education* (HRCE). He was named RED of the system in September 2022.

Mr. Gallagher leads by drawing on his vast experience as a teacher, department head, vice-principal and principal at both the elementary and secondary levels. Prior to his appointment as Acting RED, Mr. Gallagher held the position of Senior Staff Advisor at the HRCE since August 2017.

Mr. Gallagher completed his Master of Education in Curriculum Studies at Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU). Prior to that, he completed a Bachelor of Education (Social Studies and English), also at MSVU, and a Bachelor of Arts (Classics and Philosophy) at Dalhousie University. 

He currently sits on the Governing Board of the Public School Administrators Association of Nova Scotia (PSAANS) and is the treasurer of the Educational Leadership Consortium of Nova Scotia (ELCNS).

As a system leader, Mr. Gallagher’s goal is to improve student achievement within a climate of well-being and equity. He is also committed to building strong relationships with all home, school and community stakeholders, and taking successful action on the priorities set by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD).
