New Bedford PP-9

Background

In April 2018, the provincial government announced, as part of the 2018-2019 Capital Plan, a new school would be built in Bedford to address enrolment pressures in the area. Click here to read the news release.

In June 2019, the community was informed that the new Pre-Primary to Grade 9 school would be located on Broad Street.

Below is an outline of some of the processes that will occur from the time a project is announced until completion:

School Boundary

The HRCE will be responsibile for establishing the boundary for the new school. A boundary review will take place to establish the school catchment area.

Details on the boundary review will be shared in the Fall of 2019.

School Steering Team (SST)

A School Steering Team (SST) will be created, involving members of School Advisory Councils.

The SST will be asked to provide input to government for consideration during the design process for the new school. The SST will engage the community during this process.

More details on the SST will shared once more is known about the design timeline for the school.

School Name

The HRCE will be responsibile for naming the new school. A consultation process will be developed to name the school. The process will include opportunities for input from organization such as School Advisory Council, Parent/Teacher Associations, students and the public.
