Back to School Plan

Announcements

  • January 5, 2022: Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development announces that students will move to at-home learning for one week beginning Monday, January 10.
     
  • December 28, 2021: Announcement that the holiday break for most students would be extended to Monday, January 10 with and teachers and other school staff returning on Tuesday, January 4.
     
  • December 15, 2021: Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development announced that the holiday break for most students would begin after classes end Friday, December 17. Click here to read the news release.
     
  • December 10, 2021: Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development announced that school learning centres will be open for students on January 4 and 5. Click here to read the news release .
     
  • December 7, 2021: Premier Tim Houston announced during the COVID-19 news conference that public school students will see their holidays extended by two days. Students will return to class on Thursday, January 6, 2022, instead of Tuesday, January 4 as originally scheduled. Staff will report to work on January 4 as planned, for two days of professional development.

2020-2021 School Year

On Monday, May 31, Premier Iain Rankin and Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health, announced that in-person classes would resume for all students in the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) on Thursday, June 3, 2021.

2019-2020 School Year

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is in close contact with public health officials through the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. We are following their guidance and direction to manage our response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

School Closures

All public schools in Nova Scotia will remain closed and the 2019-20 school year for students end on June 5, 2020.
