Grade 9 to 12

In November 2019, the provincial government announced a new high school would be co-located on the same site on Broad Street.

At this time, it was confirmed the schools would be configured as Pre-Primary to Grade 8 and Grade 9 to 12.

The targeted completion date for both schools is the beginning 2023-24 school year

Below is an outline of some of the processes that occur during a school construction process:

School Steering Team (SST)

A School Steering Team (SST) will be created, involving members of School Advisory Councils.

The SST is asked to provide input to government for consideration during the design process for the new school.

Final decisions on the design of the school rests with the provincial government, as represented by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.

It is anticipated the SST will begin its work during the winter of 2021.

Agendas and Minutes from the SST meetings will be posted on this page.

School Boundary

The HRCE is responsible for establishing the boundary for the new schools. A boundary review will take place to establish the school catchment area.

Details on the boundary review, including opportunities for public input will be shared at a future date.

It is anticipated a boundary review will take place during the 2021-2022 school year.

School Name

The school principals will lead a consultation process to recommend potential names for the new schools to Regional Executive Director of Education (RED).

The process will include opportunities for particpation from the public, including students. To learn more, read the HRCE's Naming or Renaming Schools policy.
