Opening of Cole Harbour High District School for students delayed one day

August 28, 2014

The first day of classes for students at Cole Harbour High District School will be delayed one day until Thursday, September 4.

The late opening follows a summer of renovations which included:

  • demolition and renovation of the old gym and change rooms to create a “cafetorium” space with adjacent common learning spaces,
  • construction of a new learning centre and associated spaces on the main level of the school,
  • upgrades to the front entrance exterior and foyer, and
  • construction of new Student Services, Guidance and Youth Health spaces.

The work is part of a multi-year renovation project announced in April 2012. A new gymnasium and Skills Trades Centre were completed last year and will be operational when school opens.

The delay will give time for the building to be thoroughly cleaned and allow staff time to prepare classrooms before students return.

Staff will report to work at the school as previously scheduled on Tuesday, September 2.
