Before and After Program Expansion & Pre-Primary Busing

August 20, 2019
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) announced two exciting opportunities for Nova Scotia families today:

  1. The provincial Before and After Program (BAP), a recreation-based program for children aged four to 12, is expanding to 40 additional sites this September; and
  2. Eligible pre-primary children across the province will receive busing to and from the program over the next two years.
What does this mean in the Halifax Regional Centre for Education?

Before and After Program

Of the 40 additional BAP sites province-wide, there are seven new locations in HRCE. They are listed below, along with service providers:

  • Brookhouse Elementary (EXCEL)
  • Bicentennial School (EXCEL)
  • Tallahassee Community School (Tallahassee Early Learning Centre)
  • Rockingstone Heights School (YWCA of Halifax)
  • Springvale Elementary School (EXCEL)
  • Bell Park Academic Centre (Boys and Girls Club of Preston)
  • Cavalier Drive School (EXCEL)

Interested families can register for BAP by contacting the service provider at their child’s school. To register for programs offered by EXCEL, click here

Pre-Primary Busing

Busing for pre-primary children will be available in HRCE effective September 2020

HRCE is currently working through an RFP process to choose a new transportation service provider for the region. Busing pre-primary children will be part of any new contract(s) set to begin in September 2020. The addition of busing will give families, especially those in rural communities, greater access to pre-primary.
