Summer is the busiest time for Operations Services

August 14, 2020

Annually, summer is the busiest time of the year for the HRCE Operations Services department. Schools are thoroughly cleaned, construction projects big and small are undertaken, and student bus routes are created.

From that standpoint, the summer of 2020 has been no different. Here are a few of the projects our Operations team have completed:

  • 135 schools have been thoroughly cleaned
  • 21 portable classrooms have been placed at 10 schools to support growing enrolment
  • 2 schools have received modular additions (14 classrooms, washroom facilities)
  • 31 new Pre-Primary sites (50+ classroom setups) are ready for opening
  • A first: 29,000 students have been routed for busing by our new HRCE Transportation Team
  • Prepared a former secondary site as a new Grades 5-6 school in Bedford
  • Opening the beautiful and brand new Marine Drive Academy, a PP–12 School in Sheet Harbour
  • Managing significant construction projects at 55 of 135 schools.

Operations has also been at the forefront of implementing COVID-19 protocols - placing signage in schools for entering and exiting, posting reminders for good health practices like frequent hand washing and installing hand sanitizer stations in all schools. To support learning, our IT team has prepared 5,000 additional computers for student use.
