During this period, teachers will support students with at-home, online learning. Staff will be working from school unless they have been directed to self-isolate by Public Health.
Teachers will be contacting students/families to ensure students have what they need to learn at home, including technology. Learning at home will be a combination of real-time instruction delivered by teachers and self-directed learning. Students will have opportunities to engage virtually with their peers, their teacher along with specialists and supports.
Please note that during this time, both schools will be closed in the evening and on weekends for community use.
Both schools are scheduled to reopen to students on December 7, 2020.
Update on Schools in the Auburn Drive Family
The remaining schools in the Auburn Drive Family of Schools (FOS) will be open on Monday, November 23 to students and staff.
The schools include: Astral Drive Elementary, Astral Drive Junior High, Bell Park Academic Centre, Caldwell Road Elementary, Colby Village Elementary, Humber Park Elementary and Joseph Giles Elementary.
Between now and Monday, the Halifax Regional Centre for Education will be bringing in additional staff to ensure all the schools in the FOS undergo a comprehensive, deep cleaning.
Families are encouraged to have conversations with their children this weekend to reassure them that school is a safe place to be. Children and young people look to the adults in their lives to guide them on how to react during worrying and stressful times.
On Monday, school staff will spend time providing this reassurance as well as reinforcing the public health measures that are in place to protect everyone.
Our shared health is our shared responsibility.
