The first day of school for students is Tuesday, September 7, 2021, with the following exceptions:
| J.L. Ilsley High | Wednesday, September 8, 2021 |
| St. Joseph's-Alexander McKay Elementary | Wednesday, September 8, 2021 |
Due to a number of grade/school reconfigurations, there are also the following exceptions by grade:
| Beechville Lakeside Timberlea Senior Elementary | Grade 2 students ONLY to start on September 8, all other grades will start on September 7 |
| Cunard Junior High | Grades 5 and 6 students ONLY to start on September 8, all other grades will start on September 7 |
| Elizabeth Sutherland | Grades 5 and 6 French Immersion students ONLY to start on September 8, all other grades (including grade 6 English) will start on September 7 |
| Herring Cove Junior High | Grade 6 students ONLY to start on September 8, all other grades will start on September 7 |
| John Martin Junior High | Grade 6 students ONLY to start on September 8, all other grades will start on September 7 |
Any changes to the school calendar were communicated with families in June.
