The message below was shared with families of Basinview Drive Community School, Kingswood Elementary and Rocky Lake Elementary on May 2, 2022.
Families,
As I shared with you in an email on March 8, the new Pre-Primary to Grade 8 school on Broad Street will now open for September 2023. As you know, there are significant pressures at Kingswood Elementary that cannot be left unaddressed until the new school opens. Below, you’ll find a short-term plan to accommodate students for September 2022.
A Short-Term Solution
One of the most important considerations in developing this plan was keeping cohorts of students from each community together. Here’s how that will look:
Basinview
- Students who are currently in Grade 4 at Basinview will remain at Basinview for their Grade 5 year, instead of moving to Rocky Lake Elementary.
Kingswood
- Current Grades 4 and 5 (English program only) students will go to Rocky Lake Elementary for Grades 5 and 6 in September.
- Student transportation will be provided.
- Current Grades 4 and 5 French Immersion students will remain at Kingswood for Grades 5 and 6 in September.
- The Kingswood Pre-Primary Program will remain off site.
Rocky Lake Elementary (RLE)
- Current Grade 5 students at RLE from Basinview will remain at RLE for Grade 6 in September.
- Current Grades 4 and 5 students from Kingswood (English program only) will go to RLE for Grades 5 and 6 in September.
- There are no changes for students at Bedford South. Grades 5 and 6 students will continue to attend RLE.
The success of each student’s experience will depend on a strong transition plan. This is our current focus and you can anticipate regular communication as the plan unfolds. In the meantime, please reach out to your school principal if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Elwin LeRoux,
Regional Executive Director of Education
