Broad Street Update: Virtual Town Hall

October 19, 2022
This message was shared with families in the Charles P. Allen Family of Schools on October 19, 2022.
In less than a year, two new schools – a Pre-Primary to Grade 8 and a Grade 9 to 12 – will open under one roof on Broad Street. There’s lots of exciting work happening behind the scenes to bring these two new schools to life and I know the community is eager to learn more.
I am writing to provide an overview of what you can expect in the coming months as we work toward opening for September 2023.
Where are we now?
  • We are in the process of establishing boundaries for the new schools and we’re looking for your input.
  • We are considering a different approach for boundaries at the high school level – one that gives families a choice.
  • Part of this process will involve reconfiguring grades in most schools in the Charles P. Allen (CPA) Family of Schools (FOS) to address enrolment pressures.
  • In the coming weeks, we’ll open a Virtual Town Hall that will invite students, staff, families, School Advisory Councils and community members in the CPA FOS to share feedback on our plan.
  • Between November 1, 2022 and January 3, 2023, you will have multiple opportunities to join this ongoing conversation.
  • You will be able to provide input by phone, email, our website and through an online tool called ThoughtExchange. This tool will allow you to contribute ideas and opinions anonymously, see what others have offered, and rate comments.
  • Throughout the Virtual Town Hall process, we will respond to frequently-asked questions and provide additional materials.
  • You will receive more information on how to get started on November 1, 2022.
What happens next?
  • Once the Virtual Town Hall closes, we will consider all participant feedback as we establish boundaries for the new schools.
  • In January 2023, we will receive the most up-to-date projected enrolment data for HRCE schools.
  • We will test our proposal against these new projections to ensure it reflects actual growth in the CPA FOS community.
  • New boundaries and grade configurations will be established and shared with you in February.
  • In the spring, our focus will shift to creating smooth and seamless transition plans to support staff, students and families at all schools in the CPA FOS.
We know you will have many questions as we work through this process. We also know that regular communication to students, staff, families, School Advisory Councils and community members is key. You will receive the most up-do-date information in your inbox as it becomes available. The same information will also be on our webpage.
Finally, as we enter this new phase, I would like to acknowledge those who participated in the School Steering Team over the past two years. Thank you for your time, your insight, and your input to government to support the design process. We wouldn’t be at this point without you.
The countdown is on!
You will receive your invite to the Virtual Town Hall on November 1, 2022.
All the best,

Steve Gallagher
Regional Executive Director of Education (Acting)
