New Broad Street Schools: Consultation Update

November 10, 2022

This message was shared with families in the Charles P. Allen Family of Schools on November 9, 2022.

You’ve been sharing, and we’ve been listening!

Last week, the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) launched a Virtual Town Hall, with the purpose of collecting your input on three proposed ideas for the new Broad Street schools opening in September 2023.

Thanks to those who have taken the time to share their thoughts with us. In the first nine days, we heard from more than 1,300 participants who shared over 900 thoughts and offered close to 29,000 ratings on ThoughtExchange. We have also received your input via email, voicemail, and webform submissions. We are excited to see this level of community engagement!

For an overview of the main themes and thoughts collected to date, click here .

What have we heard?

Many have asked for information about how the proposed Pre-Primary to Grade 8 (PP-8) boundary was determined. We answer this and address others on our frequently-asked questions webpage.

Rest assured that we are considering all input from community and that no decisions have been made.

We continue to work through boundary scenarios for the new PP-8 school, while incorporating your thoughts and suggestions. We are listening!

In January 2023, we will receive the most up-to-date enrolment projections for the area. This information will help shape final decisions around boundaries for the new schools on Broad Street.

Keep in mind, this is an ongoing conversation. You can participate as often as you wish, submit multiple thoughts, and rate the thoughts of others. If you know someone who hasn’t yet participated, please encourage them to do so. ThoughtExchange is offered in multiple languages, so participants can share and read thoughts in their preferred language.

As a reminder, you can find our proposals, maps, an updated FAQ document and other ways to share your thoughts about this consultation at .

You can expect another update from us in the coming weeks.

Once again, thank you for sharing your voice.
