New Broad Street Schools: Consultation Update

November 30, 2022

This message was shared with families in the Charles P. Allen Family of Schools on November 30, 2022.

Families,

It’s been nearly one month since we launched our Virtual Town Hall to collect your input on three proposed ideas for the new schools on Broad Street opening in September 2023.

We are pleased with the level of participation we have seen so far from families, staff, community members and students. To date, more than 1,600 users have visited ThoughtExchange to share, rate and explore thoughts. Let’s keep this going!

For an overview of the main themes and thoughts collected to date, click here.

Last week, we held a virtual meeting with parent/guardian and community members of School Advisory Councils within the Charles P. Allen Family of Schools. Principals were also invited. We plan to hold a similar session with staff in early December and engage students before the holiday break.

Popular Topics and Common Themes

We have received several questions about the proposed idea of being able to choose between two high schools (Charles P. Allen High or the new school on Broad Street). Visit our frequently-asked questions webpage to view our response.

Your input helps us understand where we need to go next, and how best to proceed. Your thoughts, opinions and concerns are valuable, and we welcome the differences in perspective.

Lastly, I am excited to share an update on the progress we are seeing on Broad Street. Click here for an aerial view of the new school taking shape.

More information about this consultation, including our proposed ideas and the different ways to provide input, can be found at www.hrce.ca/consult .

Thanks again for your contributions to this ongoing conversation.

Sincerely,

Steve Gallagher
