Asbestos Testing
On Thursday, December 8, out of an abundance of caution, the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) closed Bicentennial School after receiving test results indicating higher than acceptable levels of asbestos present in two of the three rooms under construction. The school remained closed on Monday, December 12 and Tuesday, December 13 while more testing was completed.
The school re-opened on Wednesday, December 14 after the HRCE received approval from the Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills, and Immigration along with clear test results from a third-party expert.

2019-2020
In June 2019, the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) advised the school community funding had been secured to continue with upgrades to the building envelope (i.e. windows replacement and masonry repointing).

2018-2019
In May 2018, the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) was advised it would again be receiving funds to complete upgrades to Bicentennial School. The funding will be used to continue upgrading the building envelope (i.e. windows replacement and masonry repointing).

2017-2018
In May 2017, the provincial Department of Education and Early Childhood Development informed the Halifax Regional School Board that additional funding would be provided to continue with renovations at Bicentennial School. The HRSB will use these funds to complete the roof replacement and continue installing windows.

2016-2017
On June 3, 2016, it was announced by the provincial Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, that additional funding would be provided to continue with renovations at Bicentennial School. The HRSB will use these funds to do some additional roofing work, replace a section of windows and undertake masonry repairs.

2015-2016
The provincial government announced a renovation project for Bicentennial School on May 14, 2015. The renovation included:
- Replacing part of the roof;
- Replacing some windows and wall cladding; and
- Reconfiguring how students come and go through the main entrance.
