Effective February 1, 2023, we will be accepting registrations for school through our new online portal, PowerSchool Enrollment for the 2023-24 school year! Registration starts in February for the following school year to ensure appropriate resources are in place for September. Children born in 2018 are eligible for Pre-primary or Primary and children born in 2019 are eligible for Pre-Primary in September 2023.

New registration is only required if:

  • New to school: If your child is beginning school for the first time in pre-primary or primary. Please note: Pre-primary children are not required to re-register for primary.

  • New to HRCE: If your child has never attended school in HRCE, but will be attending a school in HRCE in September.

  • Back to HRCE: If your child attended a school in HRCE in any prior year, but is currently attending a school that is not in HRCE (for example, currently attending school in another Region, private school, or homeschool), but will be attending a school in HRCE in September.

Please contact your child’s CURRENT school, if your child is already registered with HRCE, but:

  • you are moving and need to register your child for a different school within HRCE; OR
  • your address will be changing but the new address is still within the catchment area for the current school.

What You Need to Begin

1. Verify your neighbourhood school. If the school you want your child to attend is outside of your neighbourhood, you must first register for your home school and then follow the process for out-of-area requests .

2. Make sure you have the following documents in electronic form (image, pdf or Word document):

  • Proof of Identity/Age (one of: birth certificate, passport, immigration papers, or legal adoption papers) if you are new to HRCE;
  • Proof of home address (a recently dated official government or utility document with your current address that includes your name and date, such as water bill, power bill, internet bill, home fuel bill, a tax receipt, property assessment or a mortgage contract); and
  • Nova Scotia Health Card or Canadian Province Health Card or, for Non-Citizens while in Canada, proof of Medical Insurance Information.

Please note: If your child is a non-resident, immigrant or refugee, further documentation related to your status must also be provided during this process.
