Student Registration

Registration for the 2020-2021 school year began Monday, February 3, 2020

Welcome to Pre-Primary

Pre-Primary will be available to all HRCE school communities starting in September 2020.

  • In order to be eligible to attend Pre-Primary your child must be 4-years-old on or before December 31 in the year they start Pre-Primary.
     
  • Your family must live within the English boundary of the school that offers this program.
     
  • If you are unsure whether you live within the boundaries of a school offering the program, try our Home Address Lookup.
     
  • Pre-Primary does not have waiting lists. All families who live in the English boundary of the school serving the area (neighbourhood) in which they reside will have a space in that school's Pre-Primary program.
     
  • For a list of schools offering Pre-Primary, click here. Schools with an asterisk (*) are new programs opening in September 2020.

Registration takes place at each school with the following exceptions:

  • For children living in the LeMarchant-St. Thomas catchment, registration will take place at Sir Charles Tupper Elementary
     
  • For children living in the Saint Mary’s catchment, registration will take place at Inglis Street Elementary
     
  • For children living in the Upper Musquodoboit catchment, registration will take place at Musquodoboit Valley Education Centre

To register, parents/legal guardians must complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the HRCE registration form. You can download the registration form (Word | PDF) or fill one out at the school.
     
  2. Present the child's proof of age and legal name (as listed on birth certificate, passport, immigration papers, legal name change certificate or adoption documents).
     
  3. Provide proof of residency/home address for the parents/legal guardian (such as a current utility bill (power, water, cable, internet) or the sales bill for your home).
     
  4. Provide Nova Scotia Health Card (MSI) number and expiry date at the time of registration.

Welcome to Grade Primary

  • In order to register your child for Grade Primary, they must be 5-years-old on or before December 31 in the year they start Grade Primary
     
  • Students will register for English programs at the school serving the area (neighbourhood) in which they reside. Students who live in an area of eligibility for Early French Immersion will register at the French Immersion designated school that serves their neighbourhood.

To register, parents/legal guardians must complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the HRCE registration form. You can download the registration form (Word | PDF) or fill one out at the school.
     
  2. Present the child's proof of age and legal name (as listed on birth certificate, passport, immigration papers, legal name change certificate or adoption documents).
     
  3. Provide proof of residency/home address for the parents/legal guardian (such as a current utility bill (power, water, cable, internet) or the sales bill for your home).
     
  4. Provide Nova Scotia Health Card (MSI) number and expiry date at the time of registration.

Early French Immersion Program (Grade Primary)

  • The Early French Immersion Program begins in Grade Primary and is guaranteed to students who live within areas of eligibility of the Halifax Regional Centre for Education.
     
  • For further information regarding eligibility, click here to access the Home Address Lookup located under "About our Schools" on this website, or contact the principal of your neighbourhood school.

Late French Immersion (Grade Seven)

  • The Late French Immersion Program begins in Grade 7 and is guaranteed to students who live within areas of eligibility of the Halifax Regional Centre for Education.
     
  • For further information regarding eligibility, click here to access the Home Address Lookup feature under "About our Schools" on this website, or contact the principal of your neighbourhood school.

Out of Area Requests

  • Parents/guardians may seek placement for their child in a school outside of the neighbourhood in which they reside under the guidelines of the Student Registration Policy.
     
  • Parents/guardians may obtain an Out-of-Area Request form at their child's neighbourhood school. Once completed, parents/guardians must forward the Out-of-Area Request form to the requested school on the first school day in April starting at 8:00 a.m.
     
  • Alternatively, parents/guardians may complete the online Out-of-Area Request form at www.hrce.ca beginning on the first school day in April at 8:00 a.m. The electronic submission is automatically sent to the receiving school. Instructions on completing the online option can be found here.

EXCEL Program

EXCEL is a before- and after-school recreational program offered by the Halifax Regional Centre for Education at 65 elementary schools across the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Registration for the EXCEL Program will be open in early May 2020. The EXCEL Program uses a secure, web-based platform called EZChildTrack to manage the application process. Parents are required to set up an account to use the system. Applications must be completed through EZChildTrack on a device larger than a cell phone.

Once finalized, information on the 2020-21 registration process, including dates for early and general registration, will be posted on the EXCEL registration page.
