HalifaxRegionalArts(HRA)isHRCEssupplementaryfundedfineartsprogram.Its purposeistoenhanceandsupportfineartsforallstudentsinGradesPrimarythrough 12.HRAprogrammingfocusesonfourdisciplines:music,dance,dramaandvisualarts. SupplementaryfundinghasalonghistorydatingbackpriortotheamalgamationofBedford, Dartmouth, Halifax and Halifax County into the Halifax Regional Municipality in 1996. In2018,Dartmouth All-CityMusic,Halifax All-CityMusicandthenewly-created(andquickly growing) drama/dance/visual arts program merged together and became Halifax Regional Arts. This identity better reflects the variety of programming offered as well as the urban, suburban and rural regions served. In 2018-19, 85% of HRCEs student population benefitteddirectlyfromHRAprogramming. Over the next 5 years, HRA will continue to expandfineartsopportunitiestoensure equityamongallschoolsandcommunities. Thereareplanstocreatenewprograms thatarereflectiveofstudentsinterests,to increase the number of Fine Arts Specialists, andtosetupadditionalfineartslabs. These are exciting times!2'
