Providingahighqualityofeducationforeverystudenteveryday3Toachieveequitablelearningopportunitiesforallstudents.InFebruaryallHRSBLearningCentreteachersapproximately150receivedprofessionaldevelopmentontheprovincialstudentservicesguideDevelopingandImplementingProgrammingforStudentswithAutismSpectrumDisorder.TheguideisintendedtobearesourceforSchoolPlanningTeamswhoareresponsiblefordevelopingandimplementingprogrammingforstudentswithautismspectrumdisorder.Theprofessionaldevelopmentfocusedonsupportingteachersknowledgeofthelayoutandcontentsoftheguideaswellasbecomingfamiliarwithcharacteristicsofautismspectrumdisorderandassociatedfeatures.Timewasspentdevelopingafurtherunderstandingofevidence-basedstrategiesforteachingandprogrammingforlearnerswithautismspectrumdisordertherolesandresponsibilitiesofLearningCentreteachersinsupportingandunderstandingbehaviourandhowtoeffectivelysupporttransitionplanning.EachLearningCentreteacherleftwithaplanforhowtousetheguidewithschoolplanningteamsprofessionallearningcommunitiesandclassroomteachersinordertoenhancetheirunderstandingandsupportforstudentswithautismspectrumdisorder.EveryyearinMarchwesurveyparentsguardiansteachersandstudentsingrades4-12forinformationthatwillhelpusimproveschools.ParticipationintheGettingtoGreatsurveyisanonymousandvoluntaryandparentsguardiansareencouragedtocompleteoneforeachchild.Thesurveysincludequestionsthatfocusonassessmentandevaluationliteracymathematicsfamilyinvolvementeffectivecommunicationtechnologyandmuchmore.Lastyearmorethan7000parents25000studentsand2300teacherscompletedtheGettingtoGreatsurvey.LastyearweheardBetween88and94.3dependingonthelevelofparentsguardianswhoparticipatedinthesurveystatedtheyfeltwelcomedattheirchildsschool.97ofstudentswhoparticipatedinthesurveyrespondedthattheywantedtogetgoodgrades.95ofteacherswhoparticipatedinthesurveyindicatedthattheyembeddedliteracyskillsinallsubjectareas.Eachschoolreceivesanindividualreportthattheyusetoenhancetheopportunitiesforstudentstolearn.Thesurveydatahelpsustoidentifythestrengthsandchallengesinourschools.Thisannualinputisveryvaluableinhelpingmakeimprovementsthatdirectlyimpactstudentlearningandtheiroverallschoolexperience.TobuildengagementsupportandconfidenceinHRSB.ReportCardFeedbackUntilApril14theDepartmentofEducationandEarlyChildhoodDevelopmentisaskingNovaScotiansfortheirfeedbackontheprovincialreportcard.Clickheretolearnmoreorprovideyourfeedback.
