There is so much to celebrate: we have five schools in various stages of construction! Here’s the status of new schools in HRSB: Dartmouth South Academy This project is nearing completion and expected to be ready for move in during the Christmas break. Startup is scheduled for January 3. Look for a sneak peek in next month’s report. Eastern District P-12 The schematic design was recently presented to the School Steering Team and detailed design is currently underway. LeMarchant-St. Thomas Replacement The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (TIR) is currently undertaking design modifications due to increased enrollment projections. This will require the project to be retendered this winter. The anticipated completion is expected during the summer of 2019. Island View High Construction is ongoing and completion is targeted for the Spring of 2018, with an expected opening in September of 2018. J.L. Ilsley High Replacement The site selection for the new school is pending technical site assessments by TIR. Three site options have been submitted to EECD, and the final decision will be made by the Minister. There is no target delivery date at this time. School Advisory Council chairs and members in the J.L. Ilsley Family of Schools recently took part in an engagement session around the grade configuration for the new school. Here are two comments that we received following last month’s YouTube stories about the expansion to All-City Music: D’Arcy Gray is a percussionist and Julliard graduate who is the education and com- munity outreach coordinator with Symphony Nova Scotia (SNS). He is the percus- sion instructor at Dalhousie and a regular performer with SNS. D’Arcy is working with HRSB percussion students, and others, as a clinician and adjudicator. Halifax All-City Music will be holding its first major concert event of the year on November 3 at 7 pm at Faith Tabernacle Church in Halifax. This concert highlights all aspects of the All-City Program (strings, band and choral). Join us!
