6 Goal 4: To Build engagement, support and confidence in HRSB Goal 3: To Achieve Equitable Learning Opportunities for All Students How are we continuing our work toward creating culturally relevant schools? HRSB’s Diversity Team continues to focus on creating culturally relevant schools that are responsive to the learning styles of each of our students. This is being accomplished through the development and facilitation of professional learning for staff at various levels in the organization. This year, Central Office staff from Program, Human Resources and Operations departments will participate in Culturally Relevant Pedagogy (CRP) sessions. The Diversity Team also continues to work with educators who provide support to teachers and students in schools. This includes math and literacy coaches, math support teachers, junior high intervention teachers and student service specialists. The team is currently working with all 20 of our priority schools, which looks different in each building. Two CRP Specialists are working directly with administrators, teachers and students at 16 of these schools. They are modelling and co-planning culturally relevant lessons and are helping to bridge relationship gaps between teachers and students. Outside of our priority schools, the Diversity Team has begun working with 10 junior high schools and three high schools. This includes professional development and collaborative time for all teaching staff and school administrators. From co-op hosts to breakfast program volunteers to health service providers, our community partners play a tremendous role in meeting students’ (and in many cases, their family’s) needs. We are thankful to the hundreds of individuals, organizations and agencies that work with us every day to deliver programming that enriches students’ school experiences. We couldn’t do it without you! Recently, more than 70 community partners came together at the HRSB Career Fair to share their expertise, and discuss career pathways and post-secondary education opportunities, with more than 1000 students. Thank you for your willingness to participate and to support our students as they explore the possibilities for the future. How do our (many!) community partners enhance our students’ educational experience?
