6 Thought leadership In July, I, along with six superintendents who belong to the C21 CEO Academy, had the opportunity to present to the Council of Ministers of Education (CMEC) at their annual conference in Charlottetown. Together, we shared a pan-Canadian perspective on learning and technology innovation at all grade levels with federal Ministers and leaders in education. I was also recently invited to participate in the Poverty Solutions Advisory Council by Mayor Mike Savage. I look forward to contributing to a poverty solutions strategy for the municipality. C21 CEO Academy Charlottetown, PEI July 2017 Acknowledgement During the month of October, HRSB schools will begin reading the following statement during morning announcements: We acknowledge that we are in Mi’kma’ki, which is the traditional ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq people. This acknowledgement will also be used to open any official event or ceremony at HRSB offices. Schools have been asked to begin using the statement during Mi’kmaq Heritage Month so that students can make connections with, and recognize, our shared history in Nova Scotia. Appropriate supporting resources to assist teachers and school communities to understand the rationale for acknowledging Mi’kmaw Territory in our schools can be found here in English and in French.
