5 Goal 2: To Strengthen Safe and Inclusive School Environments In February, the Federal Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship visited students and staff at John Martin Junior High School. The Honourable Ahmed Hussen wanted to hear from students and staff about the importance of building positive relationships in school through a restorative approach. John Martin Junior High School, a culturally diverse school community that has embedded a restorative approach in their daily practice, serves as an example of the many HRSB schools that are using this approach to support student success! The students participated in a circle and shared why the restorative approach works and what it means to them. Following that, teachers shared their perspectives on the importance of building positive relationships with students. Here’s some of what they had to say:
