Act of Discrimination at Bay View High School

Act of Discrimination at Bay View High School

A blatant act of discrimination took place last week at Bay View High School. This incident is currently under investigation by the RCMP.

All schools in Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) are committed to ensuring safe, positive and inclusive learning environments for all students and staff. Discriminatory behaviours are never tolerated. Any such acts are taken seriously and addressed in accordance with the Provincial School Code of Conduct Policy.

When harm is done, we know it is important to educate those involved and to repair and restore relationships. This week, HRCE’s Diversity Team is working with the students and staff at Bay View High School, giving them an opportunity to share their concerns and collaborate on solutions.

If families ever have concerns about their child’s safety and well-being, they should reach out to their school principal.

On Friday, April 21, Bay View High School Principal Dunovan Kalberlah sent a message to families which can be viewed here.
