Welcome to the 2026-27 school year!

Welcome to the 2026-27 school year!

The following message was shared with all families on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Families,

A new school year is almost here!

Tomorrow, more than 60,000 students will walk through the doors of our 136 schools to begin the 2026-27 school year. For some, it will be a return to familiar faces and routines. For others, it will be a brand-new school, classroom or experience. Wherever your child is starting from, we are excited to welcome them.

Before tomorrow, a few things to know:

  • PowerSchool: The PowerSchool Parent Portal opens today, September 2, at 3 p.m. Families can log in to view available class and schedule information.
  • First day: The first day of school for students is tomorrow, September 3.
  • Your school: If you haven't already, you will hear directly from your child’s school with information specific to their first day and school community.
  • School calendar: Take a moment to review the 2026-27 school calendar and note important dates throughout the year.
  • School supplies: We want every student to have what they need to participate fully in learning. If your family needs support with school supplies, please reach out to your school. Assistance is available confidentially.
  • Transportation: If your child takes the school bus, please review their stop location and schedule in the BusPlanner Parent Portal. Questions can be directed to HRCE’s Transportation Team by submitting this form, at transportation@hrce.ca or 902-431-4723.

As we settle in

The first few weeks of school are always a period of adjustment — for students, families and staff. New registrations continue to arrive, routines take shape and, in some cases, classes may need to be adjusted to meet enrolment and class cap requirements by the end of September. We appreciate your patience as schools work through those early-year changes.

Staying connected

Teacher and staff contact information is available through the PowerSchool Parent Portal rather than on school websites. Families can also contact their school directly at any time. Learn more about logging into PowerSchool here.

And remember, when you have a question or concern about your child, their teacher is the best place to start, followed by the school principal if additional support is needed. Our Family Navigators are also available at connect@hrce.ca or 902-464-2000 to help families find the information or support they need.

The first day of a new school year is filled with possibility. Our staff is ready and excited to welcome you and your children to the 2026-27 school year! Here’s to a great year of learning, growth, and connection.

All the best,
